Vicente Berbegal is the first Spanish businessman to have become the European Entrepreneur of the Year at the European Business Awards (EBA), the Champions League of European business. Born in Valencia, Berbegal is the founder of Actiu, a company in Alicante designing and manufacturing technologically advanced furniture for the workplace.

Also the best business of the year, Actiu is one of the 110 leading companies in Europe, chosen out of 32,000 entries from 34 countries.

With a 50-year history, the Valencia-based business is a reference in office furniture in Spain and beyond Spanish borders. Last year, its turnover amounted to 71.12 million euro (9% higher than in 2015), 34.53 million corresponding to international markets.

Quality and sustainability

Berbegal began to make his own furniture when he was 20. Now, his company has its own technology park, covering 200,000m2.

Headquartered in the town of Castalla, Actiu has led to the creation of 221 direct and 150 indirect jobs. The furniture made here has been awarded with the most prestigious European design prizes – Red Dot, the German Design Award and If Design, among others.

In 2016, Actiu invested 4.3 million euro in R&D and internationalisation, bringing its furniture to 85 different countries.

Moreover, Actiu is an eco-friendly company, using solar energy in its facilities (it has its own solar power station, producing 8 million kW a year) and storing a total 15,000m3 rainwater in tanks.
