The Most Beautiful Villages in Spain Association has granted the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain Award to Marca España for its promotion of rural Spain. It happened at the 1st Tourism, Innovation and Environment in Rural Spain Conference, held in the headquarters of the Senate of Spain on 16 November.

The award, giving recognition to Marca España’s efforts to promote the Spanish rural heritage in 2017, was presented to the High Commissioner for Marca España, Carlos Espinosa de los Monteros. ‘The Most Beautiful Villages in Spain is a project we have always felt as akin to our interests and values. We are very happy for its success and recognition, even beyond our country’s borders,’ Mr Espinosa de los Monteros said at the event.

The High Commissioner for Marca España thanked the Association for the award, adding that Marca España would continue to promote the values underlying this project in the private sector – ‘a key factor in the upgrade of the services offered in the lovely villages that are members of this network.’

‘Marca España has always been by our side, right from the start – attending our events and showing our beautiful villages to the world,’ said Francisco Mestre, Chairman of the Association.

Boosting rural tourism

The 1st Tourism, Innovation and Environment in Rural Spain Conference focused on how to improve the services offered by country villages and how to fight depopulation in rural areas. It gathered village authorities, representatives of government agencies and experts to discuss the current situation and future prospects of country travel and cultural tourism.

In 2018, Spain is playing host to the first meeting of beautiful villages from Ibero-America, aimed at launching the first Latin American network of Most Beautiful Villages. The Spanish model will thus continue its expansion at the global level.
