Real Madrid CF vs. FC Barcelona: 'El Clásico' in USA for the first time
Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona are bringing ‘El clásico’ to the United States for the first time on 29 July. As part of the International Champions Cup (ICC), the match will be held at Hard Rock Stadium (65,000 seats), the home stadium of the Miami Dolphins. It will include a show by Marc Anthony during half-time. The sporting event is aimed at boosting both franchises at the international level and promoting the Spanish premier league – LaLiga – in USA.
This will be the second Real Madrid-Barcelona clash outside Spain. In 1982, they played at Farid Richa Stadium in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. It was a friendly for the third and fourth positions in the Presidente de la República de Venezuela Cup, a tournament also featuring FC Porto and Inter Milan. Victory by 1 to 0 went to Real Madrid, then coached by Vicente del Bosque.
Both teams have played at Hard Rock Stadium, however. FB Barcelona was here in 2011, in a match against Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Mexico) that broke the record for number of spectators in a football match in Florida. As to Real Madrid, they faced Chelsea FC in 2013.
In New York, a big party is being organised by LaLiga, beIN SPORTS, Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona at 230 FIFTH Rooftop Bar (230, 5th Ave.) for 3000 diehard fans to watch the game on big screen. This event will have two top ambassadors: former Real Madrid player Raúl González Blanco and former Barcelona star Gianluca Zambrotta.
